About ShiftSeat · 102 words

ShiftSeat is a marketplace that connects independent expedited drivers with the small and mid-sized fleet owners who need them. Drivers build one verified profile — CDL, endorsements, team status, availability — and fleet owners post open seats. ShiftSeat handles matching, onboarding paperwork, and payment, and never charges drivers a fee; fleet owners pay 7.5% of the daily seat rate on filled seats only. The platform is built to give smaller operators the same ability the mega fleets have always had: when a truck goes down, put the driver in another seat instead of sending them home. ShiftSeat LLC is a woman-owned company founded in May 2026 and based in Lakeland, Florida.

What problem does ShiftSeat solve?

The short version, for reporters who want the angle before the specs.

Background

Every driver knows the tradeoff. The small fleet pays better — but when that truck breaks down, you’re out of work until it’s fixed. The mega fleet pays less and always has another seat ready. Drivers have been choosing between money and stability for as long as the industry has existed.

ShiftSeat is built to erase that choice. Small and mid-sized fleet owners post open seats. Verified drivers post availability. A driver sidelined by a breakdown finds a seat in days instead of weeks, and a fleet owner with a truck and no driver fills it without a hiring cycle. The depth of bench that only the largest fleets have ever had becomes something a three-truck operation can reach.

The platform launched inside the FedEx Custom Critical contractor network — the market its founder operates in daily — and is built for expedited fleets generally.

Etien Alcantara

Founder & Owner

Etien Alcantara is the founder and sole owner of ShiftSeat, a woman-owned marketplace connecting expedited drivers with the small and mid-sized fleet owners who need them.

She spent nearly twenty years in retail merchandising and buying — at Walmart, Amazon, Sears, and RadioShack — before leaving corporate life in 2017. She owns and operates Miles 2 Go Transport, an expedited fleet based in Lakeland, Florida, where she manages the company’s finances, compliance, and back-office operations.

ShiftSeat came directly out of that work. Running a small fleet, she watched the industry’s oldest tradeoff play out firsthand: the smaller fleet pays the driver better, but can’t reseat that driver when a truck goes down. The mega fleets can. ShiftSeat is her attempt to give the smaller operator that same depth of bench — and to float all the boats at once.
